On August 24, 2026, an awareness meeting was held at the Manmunai West Divisional Secretariat conference hall, chaired by Divisional Secretary Mrs. Namasivayam Sathiyananthi, to discuss proactive measures for mitigating potential El Niño impacts. The event featured a keynote briefing by Mr. R. Kirubairaja, Senior Lecturer at Eastern University, focusing on climate changes, risks, and early preparedness.
It brought together cross-sector officials including representatives from agriculture, health, planning, local government, and community organizations to strengthen multi-sectoral coordination and community resilience against future climate challenges.
